Parent-Family Engagement at AMS
Parent Experience
At AMS, parents play a vital role in their child’s Montessori experience.

We ask the following commitment of all families who join the AMS community:
- Gain a deeper understanding of the Montessori philosophy.
- Participate in school events and parent education workshops.
- Support the growing independence of your child.
- Observe your child’s classroom.
- Share your insights with teachers as you know your child best. This fosters a holistic understanding of your child and develops a strong partnership between home and school.
- Contribute your time and talents to the AMS community! No amount of time is too little. When children see their family involved it instills a sense of pride and an understanding that their life at school is important.
- Our priority is to keep you, our parent community, connected to the school and all the wonderful learning and activities that are taking place. Effective communication between parents/guardians, staff, and students is important. All school and classroom information, forms, or notes are delivered through our in-house learning management system - Edsby.
Parent Active Community (PAC)
The Parent Active Community (PAC) at Aurora Montessori School fosters warmth, inclusiveness, and support for our school.
All AMS parents are automatically members and can contribute by volunteering, attending events, or participating in meetings. Every effort helps enrich our students' experiences and strengthens our community!

Previous PAC initiatives include involvement with
- Student-Parent Reading Programs
- Scholastic Book Fair
- Spring Fair
- Staff Appreciation Luncheon and ‘Treat’ Days
- Dances for Halloween and Valentine’s Day
- Pancake Day
- General Fundraising
- Collaboration with charities
- Collaboration with administration on large scale school enhancement initiatives (for example, our Outdoor Classroom)
Grandparents' Day
The presence of grandparents in our classrooms and hallways brings a profound sense of warmth, continuity, and community to AMS. Their involvement not only enriches the educational experience but also reinforces the values of connection and tradition that lie at the heart of our school.

Every fall we hold two Grandparents' Days, where grandparents visit our classrooms and enjoy refreshments and entertainment.
We encourage all AMS grandparents to help us enrich the lives of our students by visiting, not only on Grandparents' Days, but as much as possible to observe our students, read a story, demonstrate a craft or share a life-experience.
