For over 35 years, Aurora Montessori School (AMS) has been a beacon of educational excellence, guiding children from 18 months through Grade 8 in a journey of discovery and growth. Here, our dedicated staff nurture each child’s unique potential, cultivating responsible, self-directed learners and critical thinkers prepared to meet the challenges of a changing world.
With a Montessori approach that champions self-directed learning, creative exploration, and social-emotional development, AMS shapes students into compassionate global citizens. Beyond academics, we offer a rich array of programs—from special interest clubs and seasonal camps to comprehensive before and after school (BASP) options—ensuring each child’s experience is both enriching and expansive.
Our History
Established in 1989 by Sharon Kashani, the school's story began in a charming old farmhouse on Bayview Avenue and Wellington Street, where the first class of twelve young students gathered. Unbeknownst to Mrs. Kashani at the time, this farmhouse was the historic Hartman Homestead, founded in 1826, adding a unique legacy to the school’s early years.
By September 1998, Aurora Montessori had grown, and a new chapter unfolded with the opening of a state-of-the-art campus on 14 picturesque acres at St. John’s Sideroad and Industrial Parkway. Here, Mrs. Kashani envisioned a learning environment akin to a village—a place where children could thrive holistically, intellectually, and socially.
Today, more than 400 children, from 18 months to 14 years of age, flourish in this vibrant Montessori environment
benefitting from the enduring legacy of Mrs. Kashani’s pioneering vision. Her spirit remains the cornerstone of Aurora Montessori School, inspiring each new generation to discover, learn, & lead in a Montessori learning environment. Mrs. Kashani’s original vision and legacy continue!
Montessori principles form the foundation of the educational program at Aurora Montessori School.
Students are inspired to learn through exploration and real-world experiences, both at school and in their community. They learn in an environment tailored to their developmental stage, where they are respected, recognized, and able to work at their own pace. Multi-age groupings foster peer learning and the opportunity for mentorship. The interrelated curriculum helps students understand the connections between subjects.
