Enhanced Ministry of Education Elementary Program

The Enhanced program offers a vital link between the Montessori elementary approach to learning and the Ministry of Education program. Since the traditional Montessori curriculum begins at age 2 ½ and continues in a spiral fashion, it would not be beneficial to the student to begin in the middle of the program. Therefore, we have the Ministry Enhanced path, which incorporates both the overall philosophy of Montessori and some of the materials, where appropriate. Through the Enhanced Ministry program, the learner, in an open, co-operative and nurturing atmosphere, is involved in exploration, creativity, discovery, and interdisciplinary instruction by means of an integrated curriculum that follows the Ontario Ministry guidelines.

Students may apply without previous Montessori training.

AMS Senior Elementary Program (Grades 5 and 6)

At the grade 5 and 6 levels, Enhanced Ministry students and the Montessori students join together in an enriched Senior Elementary Program. Emphasis is placed on the connections between different areas of study.  The curriculum is an integrated and academically challenging program that meets the child’s changing developmental needs.  The classroom environment fosters creativity, independence, positive self-image and a community spirit.  It is a place where the students can grow and develop as self-motivated and fulfilled young learners.  The students are accountable for working in all subject areas and they continue to develop time management organizational skills.  The students work together cooperatively sharing their ideas, listening to others and learning to compromise.

AMS Middle School Program (Grades 7 and 8)

The Middle School Program is designed to respond to the developmental characteristics and needs of the Grade 7 and 8 students for meaningful work and community involvement.  As part of learning to become a contributing member of the community, the students will, form time to time, go outside of the classroom to offer a service in the community.  The Middle School years mark the entrance of the child into the third plane of his/her development – the adolescent years. Students discover a new level of independence. The three main areas of concern of the adolescent – identity, interaction, enquiry – are addressed. The years in the Middle School Program prepare the students for entry to high school. Emphasis is placed on highly developing math and language skills. Students are prepared for their future roles as responsible citizens in the community and in the world.
