FRENCH Department

The French department at AMS consists of two separate rooms divided by an adjoining hallway. One room is allocated to the senior elementary classes, the other to the junior elementary and casa classes. Both rooms are bright and inviting.
The French department helps students to gain an appreciation of French culture both in Canada and in the world. Students are encouraged to converse as much as possible in French in order to develop fluency. There are many opportunities for students to practice their oral skills and to refine their pronunciation and intonation. Students may listen to a variety of oral texts that are supported by written comprehension activities. Drama is another useful tool for encouraging oral participation and students are exposed to a variety of plays. Traditional French music and song is also widely used in the program.
Grammar skills are continually refined during written work assignments and daily review.
