THE AMS CHILDREN'S VILLAGE

The "Children's Village" is a small "pioneer village". The eight acres at the north side of the school provides the opportunity for students to discover the "keys to the universe". The Children's Village offers shelter for small animals, a wetland area for birds and butterflies, and a garden providing wild flowers, fruits and vegetables. Students benefit from the study of Pioneer and Native People as part of their Canadian heritage. This unique learning environment creates opportunities for hands-on botany and zoology lessons. Other subjects covered include the study of grains, animals, pond life, food chains, insects, trees, fruits, vegetables, wildflowers and ecology. Relevant materials are introduced and presented gradually to students and in an appropriate sequence. The outdoor amphitheater with a giant chess board engraved in the stage, provides a beautiful setting for drama productions and chess tournaments.
